Here’s all the fishing reports that I have posted on my blog. It’s good to read through them and see when the best time for certain types of fishing are on the island.
New Cowichan Steelheading Video ~ Must See!
Fishing was good today, and one of the fish was an acrobatic, cart wheeling, chrome 8lb doe that I happened to get on video. Here is a video of that doe we caught today, this is a must see: (When viewing enlarge to full screen) Music by The Kid Natural – Land Called Haida Gwaii...

The Stamp river conditions are favourable, the water level is good, the river clarity is a light green. The fishing has been good, but we need another push of new fish to really get it going again. The weather is predicting plenty of rain today and tomorrow and that’s all we need to get the fish moving again. The Cowichan river conditions are ok, the water level is low and the clarity is clearing. The river is at 1.4 which is low and the fishing is always a little tough when the river level is down on the Cow. It’s...

The water levels have been dropping, currently it’s around 1.5 meters, the water clarity is about 6 – 8 feet with a light clay green tinge to it. I can see the water going clear in a couple of days if there is no rain. The fishing today was a little slower than it was last week but we still managed to get some nice size fresh Chromers. The weather today was amazing and there is some more sunshine in the forcast. The fishing should be very consistent through to the end of April. If you would like to head out on the...

Today we fished the Upper Stamp River and we managed a pretty decent number of fish between our two boats. Guests were pretty happy with the catch, which makes us very happy! The water level is slightly higher than normal, and came up about 6 inches from yesterday, with a clear green colour. The weather was overcast with no rain at all. Lots of big fish in the river and the fishing is great! A guide day starts at 7:30am where we meet at the top of the river and discuss the plan for the day. Then we launch our drift boats and...

Well I’ve put together a little video of some Steelheading on the Cowichan river. As you will see the fishing has been steady and the weather hasn’t really been that bad, in fact it’s supposed to be sunny for the first week of February! Ever since we rescued that eagle, the fishing has been getting better every few days. The high water has pushed in some fresh steelhead. If you haven’t booked a steelhead trip yet, book a day in February now while I still have some dates available. If you would like to join...

The last couple of weeks the fishing has been pretty consistent. The water levels have been fluctuating quite a bit, but they seem to be stabilizing right now. The Cowichan river is one of the nicest rivers on Vancouver Island to drift with a boat and I have been spending a lot of time doing just that. Almost everyday for the last few weeks we have been fishing, getting ready for our guiding season for Steelhead which is now in full swing. If you haven’t booked a guided fishing trip on the Cowichan river, now is the time....

The Cowichan River, we have been fishing daily and the river levels are almost perfect and the fishing has been very consistent. The weather report for the next week is calling for periods of rain and sun, which will help to keep the water from becoming crystal clear and maintain that steelhead green colour. The fishing pressure has been moderate, focused on the lower river mainly below Stoltz to Sandy beach. I have a last minute deal starting Tomorrow January 24th to the 27th, as the group that booked me has postponed. So, if you are...

Rambling Fisherman guide Peter Dick and I went up to the North Island to do some scouting for the upcoming guided trips we have and the weather was cold but rainless. We had an epic trip, filled with log jams, fast rapids, sunny skies and a few small steelies. The north island is the most beautiful place you can possibly fish, the scenery, the wildlife and the fishing can’t be compared to anywhere else on the island let alone BC. I can’t wait to go back next week. If you are interested in booking a trip with me to the...

Stamp River - Yesterday was my first day back to work after taking a couple of days off over Christmas. Yesterday we landed quite a number of steelhead and lost an equal amount. Today we hooked double what we did yesterday due to the fresh rain. This morning the river was up a foot from last night, and by the end of the day the river was up another few inches. The Ash river is starting to pump some brown water into the system, and if it rains all night tonight the Ash will probably blow out which will then blow out the lower river. ...

Steelheading… is a serious passion of mine. It is an extreme sport for hardcore anglers. It requires years of experience and a huge sense of adventure. To walk for miles along a river bank that has only a bear trail, to hunt, then cast a thousand times to catch and then release a fish, during winter’s rain, snow and ice?! Most people think Steelheader’s are insane! Yes! They are right, but what brings us sanity is the sound of the river, the crisp chill in the air, and the hope of a taught line with a...
