Fishing was good today, and one of the fish was an acrobatic, cart wheeling, chrome 8lb doe that I happened to get on video. Here is a video of that doe we caught today, this is a must see: (When viewing enlarge to full screen)

Two years ago my wife came up with this great idea that I should start a blog about fishing, “Because you are crazy about fishing!”, she said. My initial reaction was Ya right! I can’t even type. However, by some miracle this little blog has reached 200 posts, 200 facebook friends and is 2 years old. Over the [...]
Here’s a very quick report for fishing today in the Stamp River: It’s good. The water level is higher than normal and is a nice steelhead green. Lot’s of willing Steelhead feeding on eggs.
Float casting is probably one of the most popular forms of fishing in the rivers of British Columbia. This fishing technique is popular because it works well on most all rivers and streams. The basic set-up of float casting and dead drifting is when there is a float on the mainline, then a piece of lead attached [...]
Well it rained and rained, then the sun would come out, then it would rain. That’s your typical Port Alberni day in November and I love it! I had the opportunity today to guide a guy who passionately wanted to catch his first steelhead. I guess today was his lucky day, because he caught two Steelies, lost [...]
November/December Steelheading is great on the Stamp River and will continue to be great until the Upper river closes Jan. 1st. This fishery is productive and would be a good way to kick off your steelheading season, or if you have never caught a steelhead then this is the best fishery for you, as Steelhead are [...]
The last few days have seen excellent weather and great fishing. The summer run steelhead are actively feeding on the Coho eggs. The water is very clear and we can see steelhead running into the sides of the Coho which knock their eggs into the water.
There is plenty of red Coho and chrome summer Steelhead in the upper river right now. The water levels are perfect although almost too clear. I’ve been tying up all my gear with 8lb test maxima for these clear water conditions. It will take quite a bit of rain before the dam starts letting more [...]
Back in 2006 I purchased an 8wt Sage Launch fly rod at www.riversportsman.com and a Grey’s reel with shooting head fly line for beach fishing in front of little river. After catching a couple Coho on my new rod I was hooked. I used that rod for every river, lake and beach I fished around Vancouver Island. In fact, twice I used [...]
Today was my last day of fishing for salmon and I have to admit that it was a long long LOOONNNG salmon season. The salmon season started for me in March with the Barkley Sound derby then all the local fishing I did off of Kitty Coleman in April and May,
Is there anything worse at the end of the fishing day than being completely soaked because your waders leak?? There’s nothing worse on the river than leaking waders and unfortunately my waders now leak, badly. I own a pair of Bare Backwater waders which I purchased from Gone Fishing about 5 years ago for $300. I have [...]
