Stamp River Fishing Report – Oct. 15, 2011 – Fishing is Good

| October 15, 2011

Thankfully the rain has stopped and the river has dropped a couple of feet, it’s still 2 feet higher than normal. From the drift boat the river is very fishable. The water is crystal clear. Shore anglers should wait a couple more days for the river to drop a little more.  However, today was fantastic! The weather was sunny and the fish were everywhere, way more salmon in the river than there was 3 weeks ago.  Very large schools in almost every back eddy on the river. Today I drifted past a spot that normally holds a few fish, and as I floated past it I spooked one of the largest schools of Coho I have ever seen.  As soon as they saw my boat the school erupted with Coho jumping and the water just danced with fleeing fish.  The hard fighting Chum salmon are thick in the river as well.  All in all the fishing on the Stamp river should be very good this week as the weather is supposed to hold back the rain.  Although I didn’t hook a Steelhead today, I did see quite a few in the river.  The Steelheading should be coming on anytime now, as the Salmon start to spawn out the Steelhead come alive and feed heavily on the salmon eggs.  This can be some of the best Steelhead fishing of the year.
