How To Tie a Roe Bag for Steelheading.
First, you need to prepare your roe with borax. Here is a video done last year to describe how to cure roe:

What you need to make a roe bag:
- Scissors
- Pink roe mesh
- Stretchable thread (available at any fishing store)
- Monofilament (8 to 12lb test)
- Hook
- and your prepared roe.
To tie a roe bag, cut a piece of mesh about 3 inches square. Then place a chunk of roe in the middle, twist up the ends and wrap the stretchable thread around the twisted mesh. Cut the thread and the excess mesh. Done. I prefer the pink roe bags, but white and red are also very common.
I attach the roe bags to my hook by using the egg loop knot. How to tie and egg loop (50secs in) – Click here -
Roe bags are the number one attractor for steelhead, especially useful in coloured up water. I like to use jigs and single egg set-ups in clearer water but you can never go wrong with roe. Tip – don’t use leaders that are too long, keep them to around 24 inches and try to keep your hook loaded with fresh roe.

PS. Make sure you check your local fishing regulations before using bait.

Unless posted open; I thought bait(row sacks)were banned on all rivers in BC?
Impfy,
You are allowed to fish bait on the Stamp below the bucket and downstream, also the Sproat and other smaller streams near port alberni. If you check the regs you will see other areas as well.
