I recently purchased a hunting rifle, a Savage Edge .270 scope combo for $459. It’s a value rifle, but it’s all that could be afforded and it had good reviews. After purchasing the rifle at Tyee Marine in Courtenay I noticed that the gun would not feed the rounds into the chamber properly and most of the time the bolt wouldn’t pick up the next round from the magazine.

Promptly, returned to tyee marine and explained the problem and they tried it and the problem was intermittent so took it back to the range and sure enough it wasn’t me. It was the gun, so back to the store… They gave me a new magazine as they felt that was the problem… Back to the range the next day and the problem was not any better.

Went back to the store and the guy looked over the gun for quite a while and determined that the bolt does not pull back far enough to allow the bullet to pop up from the magazine. Obviously, a manufacturer defect he says. I explained to him that I do not have time to send it back to savage for warranty because I’m leaving on my hunting trip in ten days.

This is what impressed me: he grabbed a 30-06 savage edge off the shelf and said, take this one it’s a little better for moose anyhow.

Freaking great service! Very impressed that they didn’t make me send it back to the manufacturer!

Thank you Tyee Marine.

Tight lines,
Ian B.
